I started this project after noticing a habit in myself.
Whenever I needed to solve a problem, understand a concept, or figure something out, my first instinct was to open tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, or another AI chatbot. And honestly, they worked. Almost every time, I got exactly what I needed.
I could quickly find an answer, paste it into my project, and move on.
But over time, I noticed something uncomfortable: I was solving problems faster, but I wasn't actually learning.
I rarely remembered the answers I got. I would skim through the response, judge whether it looked correct, copy what I needed, and continue working. A few minutes later, I often couldn't explain the concept I had just used.
The more I relied on AI for instant answers, the more dependent I became on constantly asking instead of thinking, remembering, or reasoning through problems myself.
That realization was surprising.
AI was making me more productive---but not necessarily more knowledgeable.
So I built Understand-First Chat to solve that problem.
The Problem

This creates what I call understanding theater: the illusion that you understand something because it made sense while reading it, only to forget it shortly after.

How It Works

Pick any topic---coding, marketing, math, languages, science, or anything else---and start chatting with your AI tutor.
Ask questions naturally, explore ideas, and learn at your own pace.
2. Get a Personalized Knowledge Check
After a meaningful learning session, the system creates a quiz based specifically on your conversation.
Not generic textbook questions---questions tailored to what you actually discussed.
3. Prove Understanding
In Strict Mode, you must pass the quiz before continuing.
If you answer incorrectly, the concept comes back later until you master it.
No pretending. No passive scrolling. No fake progress.
4. Track Real Progress
